The Bluebird Series offers a comprehensive programme for the Grade R learner, focusing on the literacy, numeracy, and life skills.
MY ACTIVITY BOOK covers all aspects of early reading, writing, numeracy, and life skills, including counting and number work, fine motor co-ordination, visual discrimination, and language development. Thirty themes, each comprising a week of work, ensures that learners are kept busy the whole year. Striking artwork throughout the book makes learning a fun and enriching experience.
THE EDUCATOR'S GUIDE supplements the Activity Book by providing a suggested set of activities, in addition to those provided in the Activity Book, for each day of the week, It thus ensures that all aspects of the curriculum are covered. Educators are given step-by-step guidelines for all activities. In addition, every theme is accompanied by educator's tips for the parent. This exciting feature facilitates parents' involvement in their children's learning. All parent tips support the theme of the week and are quick and easy to do, focusing on the learning that takes place as part of the day to day activities of the child.
MY HANDWRITING BOOK introduces and consolidates this vital skill in a way that is fun and enriching for children. It begins with pre-writing activities, basic pencil control, and shape formation, and progresses to the forming of lower case letters and numerals. It can be used over two years (Grades R and 1) or by a Grade 1 educator whose learners missed Grade R and who need assistance with fast-tracking their writing skills.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
The Bluebird series was developed by our very own Denise Schimper, admired principal and chairperson of the foundation Phase Portfolio Committee of the National Union of Educators. She has taught pre-primary and Grades R1, 2 and 3 for a total of 35 years. In 1996 she attended the Henley Management College in London, after which she presented courses on Outcomes Based Education, both for the Department of Education and independently.
