...the learning never stops
At this stage of your child's education, the parental role is particularly important and there are a number of things parents can do to make everyone's time at school a little bit easier.
You can:- and (naturally) will
- Be punctual- try to arrive at the same time every day.
- See that your child has all they require.
- Keep your "good bye" short and ritualised.
- Respond to the school bell, it is an important security feature and children and parents need to heed and respond to the bell.
- Allow children to walk into school.
- Encourage children to carry and put away their own bags.
- Ensure that your child is positive about their hat, they may not go into the garden without a hat, please ensure that these do not go home.
- See that they are appropriately dressed for the activities they are likely to perform daily. Long dresses are not appropriate for school. Shorts and pants are best. Long hair should be tied back.
- Each class has a travelling bear which goes home each day with an individual child. PLEASE TAKE SPECIAL CARE THAT IT IS RETURNED TO SCHOOL THE NEXT DAY TO AVOID DISSAPPOINTING ANOTHER CHILD.
- Library books should be returned on the allocated day each week.
- Support your child’s progress through the school as more and more responsibility is expected, each class is a big jump towards adulthood.
- Be part of the school environment and attend the functions with your child, it gives you both a sense of belonging.
- Encourage your child to use the toilets provided at the school, urinating in the garden is not tolerated.
- Encourage your child to use the greetings they have learned when coming to school each morning. They learn Zulu during the year
- Please make sure that we have sufficient underwear to complete the toilet training process with as little inconvenience as possible. Dummies and bottles are a health hazard and are not permitted at school .
- All children require a change of clothes at school as there often water play, mud play and wet sandpit play. Children do not like to be uncomfortable or dirty when required to do classroom activities.
- Be positive, this will breed a positive attitude and behaviour in your child. Be careful of your child manipulating you with tears, wining, ‘I don’t like school’, ‘nobody likes me’, ‘I don’t have any friends’ and every other excuse you’ve used at some point in your life and then some.
- Take them seriously and listen to what they are telling you.
